As the third Alchemist store that architect Rene Gonzalez has designed for Roma and Erika Cohen, the Alchemist jewelry store offers a new perspective that reflects the works for sale within. Whereas the first store located on the 5th floor of the 1111 Lincoln Road parking garage was ethereal and light to reflect the Miami sky, and the second store, on the ground floor of 1109 Lincoln Road, mirrored the energy and color of the pedestrian street outside, this new space was designed to feel solid, elemental and luxurious like the jewels on display.
Miami’s design district is home to Alchemist Jewelry. At the end of a long courtyard filled with the palm trees, the store’s reflective façade – covered in rose-gold-colored mirrors – beckons. A two-foot-wide band of glass that runs around this reflective element allows glimpses into the store and separates the store’s entrance from the existing architecture that surrounds it – like a gem wedged in between stones.
Inside the 1000-square-foot space, Costa Esmerelda Granite walls transition from smooth to rough as you move towards the back, becoming more rudimentary as if going deeper into the Earth’s core, while a stretched white latex ceiling envelops from above and helps heighten the sense of drama and intimacy. Custom glass and onyx vitrines throughout display the jewelry.
