North Shore Bandshell Park is a mid-century urban park located on the ocean in Miami Beach. Over the years, the park, including the amphitheater and community center, had become abandoned and derelict. The new park design aims to reactivate this area by becoming a thriving green threshold; providing a calming place of refuge between the busy urban context and the seemingly endless beach.

The luminescent UNIDAD community center (also designed by RGA) becomes a point of emphasis amongst the profuse vegetation in the park. Strategically located lighting fixtures infused into the park’s landscape reveal the path towards the community center while simultaneously alluding to its glowing façade. Like light spilling from a lantern, the park will provide a welcoming glow to those passing by.

Urbanistically the design makes a connection from 72nd Street, an important and bustling commercial street, to Ocean Terrace along the boardwalk. This extension not only creates a corridor for pedestrians to walk directly to the beach, but also provides tables and benches for their leisure.

With its lush landscape and welcoming glow, the design for the North Shore Bandshell Park creates an indispensable urban center within the developing North Beach community.
